Parascak Family Chiropractic

Recently Dr. Brad Parascak of Lethbridge, Alberta sent us an email that began:

“I wanted to share with you that Kinetisense is live in our clinic! Patients are loving the technology and we haven’t even shown them KAMS or concussion baseline yet. I got approval with minor hockey today to start baseline testing for all 9 of their elite teams that they will fund me directly. We will then prepare packages for the other teams and they can fund the testing independently if they want to. Pretty darn excited at the moment!!”

Dr. Brad Parascak

We wanted to know more and so we sent him some questions. First, let’s get to know Dr. Brad better:

Question: What is the main work you do in your clinic?

Dr. Brad: The main work we do is focus on the detection and correction of spinal subluxations to promote the optimal neurological function of the entire body! We had already been doing digital x-rays and nerve scans. Now we provide full body functional movement testing with Kinetisense to everyone that comes through our door!

Question: Is there anything else that your clinic is noted for?

Dr. Brad: We serve a lot of families and young children in our office. With post-graduate training through ICPA upon graduation I have been able to confidently help expecting moms and newborns receive the best possible chiropractic care. We have been voted the Best of the Best Lethbridge Chiropractor for the last 3 years and won every year since we started to participate in the contest. This is a big honour for me as we have lots of great chiropractors in our community doing good work as well.

Question: When did you start working with sports teams?

Dr. Brad: When I graduated from chiropractic college and moved back home to start up my practice I devoted my time to the local AAA Midget Hockey program as a trainer and assisted the coaching staff for a few years before I got too busy to make time for this and manage time for my family and practice. Since then with my daughter being in dance and my son in both competitive hockey and baseball I have been able to attract athletes into to the office just from being around their activities. I currently sponsor, support and provide chiropractic care to the local Women’s Football Team. I love working with sports teams but for me, I take pride in taking care of athletes that play multiple sports and helping them function at their best.

Question: You’ve recently installed Kinetisense in your clinic and have already seen it making a difference in your clinic. Can you tell us more about that?

Dr. Brad: The technology is so simple to use once you decide how you want to implement it into the office. I love the fact that Kinetisense has so much to offer that there are so many ways to make it work in the office depending on what you want to do. Assessing posture and range of motion using Kinetisense provides quantitative data that we can easily share with our patients and be able to make better comparisons between different assessments instead of just guessing. Performing balance tests using the software has really opened our patients’ eyes on how important their nervous system is and how we as chiropractors truly are making a difference for them. The biggest thing is because the patients are actively involved in the testing process with Kinetisense that they are asking better questions and see more value in how we can help them.

Question: Now that you are using Kinetisense, how much are you using traditional tools like the goniometer or inclinometer?

Dr. Brad: I don’t use them anymore since Kinetisense does it all for me.

Question: Many chiros have well-trained eyes and are able to do helpful if not always accurate assessments on visual analysis alone. Will Kinetisense change the way you do visual assessments?

Dr. Brad: We don’t do visual analysis of posture or range of motion any longer. The best part is my chiropractic assistant can do the posture and range of motion testing and use the other applications within Kinetisense while I am taking care of other patients.

Question: What are your plans on using Kinetisense outside the clinic?

Dr. Brad: I am currently working with Lethbridge Minor hockey to do baseline concussion testing for all the elite athletes. I am planning to work with other local sports associations to do the same for them. From there I look forward to working with local gyms to offer KAMS testing. Kinetisense has so much to offer and a great way to educate our community on how important proper function is and that chiropractors have so much to offer them towards their health.

Question: Do you have any plans to use Kinetisense in your orthotics?

Dr. Brad: Interesting that you asked. Before seeing this question I talked to my team at the office and told them we should measure our patient’s balance before and after they receive their orthotics so that they can truly tell the difference it has in their spinal stability and neurological balance throughout their entire body so that they don’t think it is just about their feet. Kinetisense is such a great system as it tells you how your whole body is functioning.

Jason Dixon – Testimonial

Dr. Jason Dixon passed on the following note:

I use the analysis on every single patient.
I focus in on the clinical features for evaluation of spinal stress patterns, global ranges of motion, and balance. It is easy to use and all of my patients seem to really appreciate the thorough evaluation that this system is a part of.

I currently fly solo and it takes me approximately 10 minutes to do everything I do with Kinetisense:

  • Posture (I still take 2 shots so I have a good visual of the profile view)
  • Balance testing: 20 second recordings for each leg. If they score higher than 75% with either leg, I have them repeat the test with eyes closed. During re-exams, if they increased their score from <75% to now over 75%, then I will proceed with eyes closed assessment.)
  • I set up the KAMS with my own spinal wellness screening workflow to capture all of the spinal ranges of motion that the software allows.

I have seen marked improvement in posture, balance, and range of motion with most of my patients.
This definitely works much better than my old visual assessment. Patients love being able to see their changes as well. I have had many patients excited for their re-exams because they get to see all of the changes they are making on top of the body awareness and health/wellness surveys I have them fill out.

I combine my kinetisense exam with spinal scanning tech from CLA INSiGHT, giving me a great set of metrics for the health of their spines and nervous system. With everything together, I can now back up what my eyes and hands have been reporting for the past couple of years.

We wanted to know more, so we asked him to explain his work and the difference Kinetisense is making.

The main work we do is focus on the detection and correction of spinal subluxations to promote optimal neurological function of the entire body! The biggest thing is because the patients are actively involved in the testing process with Kinetisense that they are asking better questions and see more value in how we can help them.

While Kinetisense is key to providing full body functional movement testing at the clinic, it also helps Dr. Brad to get outside the lab. Here’s Dr. Brad.

I am working with a number of local sports associations to do baseline concussion testing. From there I look forward to working with local gyms to offer KAMS testing. Kinetisense has so much to offer and a great way to educate our community on how important proper function is and that chiropractors have so much to offer them towards their health.

How Kinetisense Gave New Hope To A Frozen Shoulder Patient

A 47 year old Female that works full time reception and presenting with severe Left shoulder pain with limited range of motion in shoulder flexion and shoulder abduction. Symptoms of pain and reduced shoulder range of motion occurred without known cause, patient claims that “it is probably coming from my desk job”. She has been suffering from shoulder pain and reduced range of motion for over 8 months and has noticed no improvements with any previous treatment that’s she had.

Frozen shoulder treatment.

Previous treatments included:

  • Massage (3 massage therapists)
  • IMS (intramuscular stimulation) (2 different practitioners)
  • Stretching
  • Myofascial Release (1 therapist)

She admits that she would often quit a treatment plan with any of her practitioners within 2-3 sessions based on her perception of “not improving”. She has been prescribed anti-depressant medication by her medical doctor to treat depression that is associated with her chronic shoulder pain.

All upper extremity DTR’s and myotomes WNL, Speed’s negative. Resisted shoulder abduction and flexion +3⁄5 on left, 5/5 on right. DDX ultrasound of left shoulder reveals calcific tendinitis of the left supraspinatus tendon, no other abnormal findings present. She has been referred to our clinic by her medical doctor as a “last try” treatment before surgery.

The Kinetisense system was used at each treatment, in some cases both pre and post treatment to track her progression in function over time.

How Kinetisense Affected This Case

  1. Improved patient compliance – The patient was impressed with the ability to track her improvements and admitted that she did not stick with previous treatments because there were home no ways to tell if there was improvement.
  2. As a practitioner I was able to maintain improvements and adjust treatment plan. In this case, I knew in a timely manner if my current treatment plan would succeed as she continued to improve.
  3. The Kinetisense system accounts for body position alterations and acquires “true” joint values, this allowed me to acquire accurate joint analysis even when my patient would try to compensate in movement.
  4. Automatic patient reporting within seconds with easy to read graphs allowed me to visually show the patient improvements and regressions both within and between appointments.
  5. Automatic practitioner reporting allows me to send updated progress reports to her referring doctor with the click of a button.

Currently…

  1. Patient is under my care and continuing to improve.
  2. Patient has referred multiple family and friends to our office, partly due to Kinetisense analysis system.
  3. Patient is taking half the amount of antidepressant medications as advised by her medical practitioner.
  4. Patient has incorporated certain activities into her life that she was unable to do for 8+ months.
  5. MD who referred this patient to my office has referred me multiple patients, 2 of them being frozen shoulder cases. He is impressed with the Kinetisense system and its accuracy.

Clinic Increased Revenue by 15% in 12 Months Using Kinetisense

At Pinnacle Chiropractic in Kalispell, Montana, Dr. Stacy Livingston believes in taking a “whole person” approach in treating his patients. His philosophy is to determine the root cause of symptoms and to create personalized plans to suit each patient’s needs. When Dr. Livingston heard about Kinetisense, he realized that it was a good t for his practice and he began to incorporate it into his treatment protocol.

In addition to utilizing Kinetisense within general patient care, Dr. Livingston began using it to improve his ability to assess and treat patients who had experienced a motor vehicle accident  (MVA) or a high impact sports injury. Kinetisense enables him to do a short and comprehensive assessment on the patient, followed by an appropriate treatment plan. First, a 3D Posture Analysis is done which provides a musculoskeletal overview of the patient, followed by complete: cervical, lumbar and o side shoulder 3D Range-of-Motion assessments. For each assessment, a report is generated and sent to the patient and the appropriate insurance company. In just 15 minutes, Dr. Livingston is able to complete a full assessment report and provide the patient with a personalized treatment plan.

“Kinetisense has made it possible for my clinic to collect on billable services such as range of motion and postural assessments and further validate the injuries sustained by my patients.”

– Dr. Stacy Livingston

Kinetisense has given Dr. Livingston a competitive advantage by creating new revenue streams. Previously, he was unable to bill for some assessments because they required additional time to produce reports that were adequate for insurance claims. He tried other products on the market but, they lacked the ability to facilitate an objective and e cient assessment process in his fast- paced work environment. Since incorporating Kinetisense into his practice, he is able to engage and educate his patients and as a result, his patient referrals and retention have increased.

Dr. Livingston has also been able to cement his professional reputation as a Med-Legal practitioner. His attorney advised him that the assessment report created by Kinetisense increases the Med-Legal case value by 20%. As a result of this, he has put together an informational package that promotes his ability to be a primary practitioner for insurance coverage and legal cases that require objective reporting.
